Bobby Boots

Every bumblebee leaves a scent wherever it lands — a smelly signal that says: POLLINATED! Buzz on by!

Every bumblebee, that is, except Bobby ...

A buzztastic story about problem-solving, trying again — and making your own mark on the world.

Developed in partnership with the Bumblebee Conservation Trust.  A percentage of every sale supports their work.

Bobby Boots is the first in the About a Bug series, which follows the extraordinary lives of Britain's most remarkable — and most threatened — insects. The characters are invented. The stories are fictional. The science is real.

And in the first few pages children fall in love with the natural world without ever being asked to.

"Bobby Boots does something special: it takes a species most of us will never see in the wild and makes her real. Through Elizabeth Hatt's wonderfully humorous storytelling and Sian Bowman's beautiful and naturalistic illustrations, we meet a bumblebee with character, courage, and determination."  Dr Andrew Impey, Chief Executive, Bumblebee Conservation Trust

"Some of our rarest bumblebees will only ever meet children in story. Future conservationists who ensure they meet the next generation". Dr Paul H. Williams, Principal Researcher, Natural History Museum; Chair, IUCN-SSC Bumblebee Specialist Group
